A year ago, Project Nirmatva was a plan on paper: spread basalt rock on smallholder farms across the Khandwa and Nimar belt of Madhya Pradesh, verify the carbon removed under a rigorous protocol, and make sure not a single rupee of cost fell on the farmers who made it possible.
Today, we've covered over 2,400 hectares, partnered with 340+ farmers across 8 districts, and removed more than 1,850 tonnes of CO₂ — all registered under the Isometric EW Protocol v1.2.
What went right
Our decentralised, "for farmers, by farmers" model meant trust was built village by village, not through a single top-down rollout. Field staff who live in the communities they serve — people like Vivek, Lalit, and Anandram in Khandwa — were essential to farmer adoption.
What we learned
Basalt logistics in rural Madhya Pradesh is harder than any spreadsheet suggests. Roads, weather, and harvest cycles all shape when and how we can deploy. We've since built a more resilient scheduling system in partnership with our field operations team.
What's next
With our G2G transaction signed and Nirmatva Carbon Pvt Ltd formed as our dedicated SPV, we're scaling toward our next milestone: 10,000 hectares under treatment. Our joint patent work with ICAR-IARI Pusa on basalt rock fines valorisation continues, and our dMRV platform, DHARA, is moving from prototype to production.
